Bloomsburg Field Hockey Falls to IUP

BLOOMSBURG -- Barbara Heemelaar's goal with 24 seconds to play lifted the Indiana University (PA) Crimson Hawks to a 2-1 win over Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Saturday.
The Huskies got on the board first when Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) scored off a Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntington Valley/Lower Moreland) assist just 4:10 into the game. The assist for Vanartsdalen was the 31st of her career, tying for her for number one all-time in school history with Shelly Miller (1991-94).
IUP tied the score at 1-1 in the 62nd minute when Liz Marosky scored on a penalty corner off the assist from Liz Martini.
The score stayed 1-1 until the closing minute when Heemelaar moved the ball downfield and scored unassisted.
The loss was the second this season for the Huskies to IUP and puts the Crimson Hawks in sole possession of first place in the PSAC.
Bloomsburg, 12-2, 8-2 in the PSAC, plays at East Stroudsburg on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
